Quilts - Bamboo

The most environmentally sustainable fibre

Mendip are the first in Australia to offer a fully bamboo quilt.

It is produced by the world's only patented manufacturer of bamboo viscose fibre, and we have had our product certified and authenticated by the fibre manufacturer as being genuine 100% Pure Bamboo.

Our quilts are filled with fluffy bamboo viscose fibre encased in a soft, bamboo fabric, which drapes to encase your body.

Made from one of the world's most sustainable "Green" plants, bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, naturally deodorant, chemical free, dust mite and mould resistant, making it an excellent choice for allergy sufferers, and it is three times more absorbant than cotton.
Why choose Bamboo?

Bamboo is one of the most economical and ecologically friendly plants on the planet. It is one of the world's "greenest", most sustainable resources.

The bamboo is grown in unpolluted regions of South Eastern China, and has no impact on their National Forest Restoration Program. It is a prolific and fast grower and rarely needs replanting, and it can grow up to 1 metre per day. Bamboo is an excellent soil erosion inhibitor and produces 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees.
Mendip Bamboo packaging - Front Bamboo requires no irrigation, fertilizer, pesticides, or fungicides. The fibre used in our quilts contains no chemical residues, and has been granted accreditation by OEKO TEX, in Switzerland, as containing no residual, harmful chemicals.

Bamboo has natural and inherent anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties, due to a naturally occurring agent known as "bamboo kun". This prevents bacteria from cultivating on the fibre. It has been tested by inoculating the bamboo fibre with bacteria. After 24 hours it was found to have 70% less bacteria present. Cotton tested in a similar manner had 30% more! Bamboo fabric is now being used for surgical dressings.
Bacteria are the cause of some odours. Bamboo destroys bacteria, therefore giving it natural deodorant properties. This makes it ideal for socks and underwear. The anti-bacterial properties have been validated by the Japanese Textile Inspection Association. Even after 50 washes, bamboo fabric still possesses excellent anti-bacterial properties. The natural antibacterial property differs from chemical anti-microbial additives in that, the latter often causes skin allergies when applied to fabrics. Mendip Embroidered Logo
Bamboo is resistant to dust mite and has natural mould inhibiting properties, therefore being very suitable for people with asthma and other allergies.

The bamboo fibre is very fine, much finer than the human hair, and is therefore extremely soft. The fibre is produced strictly in accordance with ISO-9000 and ISO-14000 specifications.

Bamboo is 3 times more absorbent than cotton. It wicks away moisture to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.
